On Friday, July 13, 2012, four members of the CDFI Board of Directors met with Eunice Scott-Saw, the Regional Director of the Child Development Agency of Jamaica at her office in Montego Bay.  It was agreed that CDFI, as a sponsoring organization, will provide the funding necessary to enable the CDA to hire two special education teachers to work with the children at West Haven Children’s Home.

Beth Klima-Dubois and Hope Harms, both special educators and CDFI board members, joined Ms. Scott-Shaw in interviewing candidates for the positions.  A consensus was easily reached, and two qualified teachers were selected based upon their  education and experience, knowledge of learning and intellectual disabilities, and their commitment to providing a Christian education.

CDFI will also make necessary repairs and improvements to the existing school house and will provide all necessary supplies and teaching materials.

During the week of August 6th, CDFI will provide on-site training to the teachers hired, as well as to volunteers and other area teachers.  CDFI will remain in close contact with the teachers and will provide ongoing support to them.

We were greatly encouraged by Pastor Dave Falconer, of Jamaica Link Ministries, who reminded us of the words of the Apostle Paul in Galatians 6:9 - “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.”

Further donations to CDFI are needed in order to fully meet the commitment which we have made to the CDA and the children at West Haven.
